IMPORTANT PSA FOR THEATRE PROFESSIONALS, PLEASE BOOST!
as of today, 12.19.20, brian clowdus, former founding artistic director of serenbe playhouse, who has a documented history of anti-black and anti-indigenous racism, is currently set to attend the 2021 upta conference with his company, brian clowdus experiences. this man is a predator. he is a grifter. he is transphobic. he is a devout believer in trump’s maga bullshit. he actively fosters toxic and dangerous work environments. he was run out of atlanta and now he’s trying to pick up unsuspecting young actors elsewhere. do not fall for it.
please email audition coordinator michael detroit at [email protected] and tell them about the unethical practices of brian clowdus. urge them to reconsider their association with him. we have a responsibility to look out for one another. this man has caused so much pain in this community and he refuses to accept responsibility for any of it. and please, if you are auditioning this year and he’s still participating, do not engage with this man.

Seeing gays for tr*mp shit on Twitter makes my stomach turn. The level of repression it must take. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

‘Titanic’ musical production on lake has set that actually sinks
A production of the musical “Titanic” is setting sail close to Atlanta, however there’s an enormous twist. For the primary time in historical past, the production is being staged on a lake — and the ship is sinking into the water each evening. Serenbe Playhouse is understood for daring production parts — in 2016, they flew in an actual helicopter for a production of “Miss Saigon” — however the firm’s inventive director, Brian Clowdus, says he likes pushing the bounds of what individuals suppose might be completed. With this present, he stated he at all times knew he needed to actually sink the ship. “From there,” he stated, “we simply figured it out!” The present’s set designer, Adam Koch, says his resolution was to construct a construction that would appear to be the blueprint of the ship, after which sink particular person parts of that construction. Platforms on cables and pullies might be lowered into the water, a deck splits aside, and an enormous 6.5-foot chandelier, custom-built for the production, plunges absolutely into the lake. The actors within the production acknowledge the water might be daunting, however a lot of them discover it amplifies their performances. Chris Sizemore, who performs the ship’s architect Thomas Andrews, says, usually by the tip of the present, there’s “not that a lot performing concerned. I imply, you’re dwelling it.” The musical first opened on Broadway in 1997. The unique production received 5 Tony Awards, together with Greatest Musical. Check out this article about one of my favorite people, Brian Clowdus! He’s not only one of my favorite people to work with, he’s a wonderful friend. He’s gearing up for Carousel, featuring a real carousel and ferris wheel, as well as Miss Saigon, in which he’s actually going to fly and land a helicopter. He’s one to watch and an amazing human.
